Stump Removal

When a tree is felled, in many cases it is taken down to ground level leaving the stump & root system behind.  It may be necessary or desirable to remove the stump as well.  Sometimes stumps that remain from an earlier felling may need removing.  Stump removal allows you to replant the area.

Stumps can be removed using various methods.  The method chosen depends on access and size of the stump.  If the stump is large and the access route permits, then a stump grinder will be used.  This is a specialist piece of machinery that uses a rotating cutting disc to chip away the wood.  Smaller stumps may be dug out by hand.

A slower but cheaper method is to ‘poison’ the stump. This stops new shoots from growing out of the stump and it will rot away.
