June is NOT the time for major tree surgery. It is the time to prepare for tree and hedge cutting later in the year.
Obviously if a tree or branches are a potential hazard, dead or diseased we will cut them now, but any healthy tree or hedge will flourish and grow better in future by waiting until autumn or winter.
How to prepare for tree and hedge cutting?
We ask our customers these questions before we quote
Is your tree subject to a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or do you live in a Conservation area?
Special rules apply and permits may be needed to carry out any work on trees and hedges. Chopwell cannot start any work on your trees and hedges until these permits are in place. Locally these are issued by Warwick District Council and there is more information on Warwickshire County Council website too.
What do you want to achieve by cutting the tree or hedge?
Usually we cut hedges to increase the light in your garden and to stop them encroaching too far into your area. Other reasons might be to change the focal point in the garden or to improve light into your home.
Are you happy with the shade cast by your tree or hedge?
Now the trees and hedges are in full leaf it is useful to take some photos, particularly in sunshine so you can see where they cast shadows. These photos will help us advise you on how to manage the shade cast.
