Has your garden got a Jubilee hangover?
Is it looking a little worse for wear after hosting Jubilee parties and the weekend weather?
Follow our quick tips to help your garden recover from its Jubilee Hangover and look its best again
- Sweep your patio and decking. To clear any rubbish as well as leaves and petals dislodged by the wind and rain. If you are feeling energetic you could wash or power wash it too
- Mow the lawn. If you took part in No-Mow-May and the flowers have gone to seed it is fine to start mowing again, otherwise leave it another couple of weeks to let the wildflowers establish and spread.
- Trim lawn edges. Trimming the edges so the grass doesn’t spill onto paths or flower beds makes the whole garden look loved and cared for even if the lawn is long.
- Support floppy plants. Many flowers benefit from some support to allow their flowers to be the stars of your garden. A couple of sticks and some twine will do, or there are many ornamental support options available.
- Dead head flowers. Deadheading encourages repeat flowering. Your plant will produce more flowers the more you deadhead.
- Weed out the plants in the wrong places. Our definition of a weed is a plant in the wrong place. Maybe you can transplant some of the ‘weeds’ to where you want them to grow and fill up a space.
- Keep watering. We know it rained last Sunday, but if you have any new plants or plants in pots that rain was not enough, and to help them look their best; some water will help enormously.
