We hope you are enjoying our blog and are finding it useful. Today we are thinking about new trees and shrubs, for me one of the most interesting parts of my job, allowing me to think creatively.
When you look at our local towns such as Warwick, Leamington Spa, Southam and Harbury we are surrounded by a wealth of trees and shrubs, from the ancient hedgerows across the countryside and mature trees in our parks, to newer plantings in all our gardens. I am constantly amazed by the variety of trees and species that grow and thrive here. That means that if you are considering a new feature shrub or tree your choice is vast.
Choice can be difficult. If you knew only one plant would grow in the space you have available it would be easy, but with so many options it can be overwhelming. If you look on the internet, read magazine articles or consult gardening books you will find lists of trees and shrubs for particular conditions that grow to a certain size and that are ‘interesting’ in a particular season. Local garden centres and nurseries tend to have plants in season to make a good show at that time of year.
But none of these resources have seen your space, have assessed the micro climate or know how much time you can devote to your garden.
