Autumn leaves
We say it most years, but the leaves are truly spectacular this time. Look around, There are so many beautiful colours in our parks, hedgerows and verges. Batsford Arboretum is particularly famous for its Acers which have superb autumn colours.
Many leaves have already dropped, giving plenty of opportunity for scuffing them as you walk about. If you are lucky enough to catch a falling leaf it supposed to signify a happy month!
Pumpkins and other autumn squashes
There are plenty available to buy at farm shops, supermarkets, markets or perhaps your local allotment may be offering spares. As well as carving pumpkins, they make excellent eating and the Warwickshire recycles team have put out a useful newsletter with recipes and how to recycle the leftovers.
Enjoying the countryside
With such a dry summer and not really that much rain so far this autumn the ground is still firm, great for walks and exploring our beautiful Warwickshire countryside. The cooler weather makes lovely conditions for an invigorating walk.
Halloween in the garden
On dry days it is lovely to get out in the garden, tidying up excess leaves and cutting back shrubs to help them overwinter. It is the perfect time for hedge cutting, so give Chopwell a call to book your slot.
With colder nights coming it is time to start protecting tender plants you want to overwinter, cut back, mulch and protect with fleece. Tender plants appreciate the shelter of wall and grouping them together helps create their own micro climate. It also makes it easier for you to check the plants and throw over extra layers of fleece or protection when the temperatures fall.
