- What do your neighbours grow?
They will have similar soil and light conditions and what flourishes with them is likely to do the same with you. Look for different varieties or plants in the same family and they are likely to do well in your garden.
- What is your local garden centre stocking?
Garden centres are a great source of inspiration, their stock changes regularly, as they showcase the plants that are at their best each month of the year. If you know when you want your feature hedge or tree to be at its best, visit your garden centre then.
- How much space do you have for your plant?
All plants grow, some more than others, if you buy a fast vigorous plant for a small space you are creating work for yourself, as you will be chopping and pruning it regularly.
