What is Arboriculture?

Arboriculture is a technical term used with in the tree surgery and forestry industries.  It covers many aspects of tree management and can be summarised as the ‘Science of cultivating trees’.

To achieve a qualification in Arboriculture, we have had to study

  • how to select appropriate tree speicies for particular purposes and locations
  • the theory and practice of tree planting
  • the theory and practice of tree care
  • the theory and practice of tree maintenance
  • the management of pests and diseases in existing species

For a domestic or office setting our arboricultural knowledge enables us to help you to select trees that are pest resistant and most likely to live a long and healthy life in the location. The art of arboriculture is applied to create a tree display that will be

  •  appropriate for your needs,
  • aesthetically pleasing,
  • ornamental, and longlasting.

For commercial clients in the forestry industry, the overall goal of arboriculture is to combine modern technology and skills in order to care for trees in a way that is scientifically sound. This includes employing risk management techniques and planting trees to present the greatest profit.
