With the summer holidays fast approaching we want to spend time in our gardens, (when the weather lets us!) and for them not to run wild whilst we go on holiday. Follow our top tips to keep your garden looking good and under control for the whole of the summer:
- Mow your grass regularly. A tidy lawn is the best way to keep a garden looking lovely and inviting. Mow just before you leave on holiday, and if you are going for more than a couple of weeks, drop the blades a notch to give a closer cut.
- Define flower bed edges. A crisp edge to a flower bed makes the whole garden look cared for. Use edging shears and a half moon tool to complete the job.
- Clean paths, patios and furniture. If you have a jet washer, a blast now will keep them all clean for the whole summer.
- Choose containers carefully. Hanging baskets can look great, but need regular, daily watering to achieve the look you are after. Depending on the weather, plants in containers can dry out quickly, so make sure containers are big enough for the plant to keep thriving even when you are not there to check it each day.
- Automatic watering systems. If you have plants in containers or a greenhouse that need regular watering there are simple and inexpensive watering systems that work on timers, ensuring the plants get the moisture they need to thrive.
