With the summer holidays almost upon us, are you leaving your garden ‘Home Alone”? You may be concentrating on preparing for your holiday; your well deserved annual break. If you are counting down the number of days until you go we expect your garden may be the last thing on your mind. However, while you are away, your garden could be advertising your absence.
There are many tips and hints about leaving lights on timers in the home to make it look occupied, so what can you do about the garden?
These tips help keep your home and garden looking great even when you are not there to tend it.
- Mow your lawns just before you go, long grass is a give away
- Remove pots and hanging baskets that you water regularly out of sight. They will quickly wilt if you stop watering them. Alternatively invest in automatic watering systems or ask a neighbour to water for your pots and baskets for you.
- Tie in plants, particularly those near windows and doors. A plant growing across a door shows that no one has been at home for a while
- Use stakes and plant supports to stop plants collapsing if there is rain or wind while you are away
- Dead-head flowering bushes and plants so they look at their best when you go.
And best of all if you have good neighbours ask them to keep an eye on your home and garden for you. If you are growing any fruit, vegetables, or cut flowers ask them to pick, harvest and enjoy; it’s a great incentive to keep popping round!
