Magnolia Stellata – Bright white star shaped flowers

Flowering Currant – bright pink small flowers early spring

Camellia Japonica – various from white to deep red, early spring on evergreen

Growing Conditions

Forsythia will grow in most aspects; sun, partial shade, exposed or sheltered.  It will grow well facing any direction.

Effort to Grow

Easy to medium. You can plant and leave, or plant and trim after flowering to keep the shape and height you require.

Why plant this tree in your garden?

Grow for the bright flowers and to screen parts of the garden. Like Flowering Currant multiple plants together can make an effective informal hedge.

Like Magnolia the forsythia flowers before the leaves come out, usually late March and Early April. Forsythia has bright yellow flowers that cover the stem of the plant.

What to look out for when planting and in the first 2 years

Keep well watered until established.  Generally very hardy.

What to look out for when the tree is established (2 years or more after planting or if you inherit it)

Buds can be eaten by bullfinches.
