- Mow the grass. It may not look like a bowling green, but regularly mown looks like you have cared.
- Cut back hedges and shrubs. Landlords like neat, neighbours like reasonable height hedges and trees that do not block their light.
- Define edges, between paths and grass, grass and flowerbeds. Again it makes the garden look neat and tidy.
Use edging shears to cut back grass or if you have or can borrow a half-moon cutter, you can redefine flowerbed boundaries. - Dead head flowers and remove spent foliage. If you have spring bulbs any remaining leaves can be cut to ground level, summer flowers keep flowering if old blooms are removed. In summer gardens need to be green not grey and brown so remove any flowers, stalks or leaves that are dead or dying.
