We are surrounded by spectacular trees this October. The hot dry summer made some trees shed their leaves early, but those leaves that hung on are turning to beautiful autumn colours. The hot summer also encouraged trees to create fruit and seeds so there are masses of acorns, conkers and berry’s as well.
Where to see spectacular trees?
The trees in our local parks and open spaces are alive with vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows, both on trees and on the ground. What can be nicer than being outdoors, looking at beautiful colours while scuffing leaves?
If you get a chance, do visit an arboretum, such as Batsford, near Morton in Marsh, there you will find a much wider variety of species, colours, shapes, and forms. Species such as Acers, are grown in arboretums and parks purely for their autumn colour.
Bring Autumn colour into your garden
Autumn colour can be a major consideration when thinking about adding a tree to your garden. If you have space for a tree, consider when you want it to be the talking point or focus of your outside space. If you already have colourful spring bulbs and beautiful summer flowers, but nothing for autumn, a tree with spectacular autumn colours could be just what you are looking for. Trees can provide autumn colour by leaves, bark and fruits, or a combination.
Trees are best planted bare rooted in winter, so use this autumn to choose; see what trees make you smile.
