Wow! It continues to be quite a week for storm damage, and we hope your home and garden have survived! We got called out to help clear branches and trees from roads, paths and gardens and noticed other damage on the way.
Storm damage to Fences
Many fences and trellises have been damaged by storms, panels blown over and posts dislodged. Storms such as these expose any weakness in your structures and even if your fence is still standing it is worth checking it is still secure.
One common problem is fence posts rotting where they meet the ground, particularly if they are in soil and have been in place several years. If the rest of the post and fence is sound Chopwell recommends installing ‘Godfather Support’ posts. These are concrete posts are about 1.3m long, available from Builders Merchants and specialist garden centres. You bury about ½ the length of the post beside the existing fence post and bolt both together. Chopwell can deliver and install these for you, extending the life of your fence and giving you peace of mind whatever the weather.

Storm damage to Plants
In between the windy weather, we encourage you to get outside and check your trees, and plants. If a plant seems rocky, firm the soil round the roots to stabilise it and consider staking it too. If there are any branches that are damaged prune them. As most plants are not in leaf the wind should blow through without causing damage. Storm damage to Sheds and Outbuildings.
